Over here guys! Your easy 4-step skincare routine.
There seems to be a dichotomy in the approach to men’s skincare, it’s either a do-it-all product at one end of the spectrum and complicated and daunting skincare regimes at the other. There is a happy medium: it’s as simple as cleanse, shave, treat and moisturise. Easy.
Gentlemen, start your engines…
Step 1: Cleanse
Begin as you mean to go on, so let’s open with a seriously luxe option from the Italians. Giorgio Armani commits to making skin perfect with their premium range: Armani Men. Their Master Cleanser gets straight to the heart of what we know men want in a cleansing product – simplicity and power. We know you’ll love the rich and dense cleansing texture, plus it softens and preps skin for optimal shaving.
Step 2: Shave
Shaving, it’s a conversation we need to have. Because (and we can’t emphasise this enough), there is little point spending money on the old cleanse/tone/moisturise routine, if you fail to invest in shaving care as well. So it’s time to head over to the Shaver Shop – they’re all about hair removal products like electric shavers, clippers and trimmers, and wet shave items from brands Proraso and Milkman. Plus they have a seriously cool range of accessories from Australian start-up Tooletries.
Hidden Level: Haircare
In our opinion the best-selling Rosemary Mint shampoo and conditioner by Aveda is a ten out of ten. It is (in this writer’s experience) the product most likely to be liberally used (slash stolen) by men who encounter it. Also check out Aveda’s Invati Men™ solutions for thinning hair, there is a nourishing exfoliating shampoo and scalp revitalizer. To finish your style, they have seriously good thickening paste and grooming clay, get ready to look very handsome!
Step 3: Treatment
Now this might be where we deviate from most men’s comfort zones – let’s talk serums and eyecreams. With almost two centuries in trade, the American skincare group Kiehl’s should certainly be first on your list of products to investigate, their men’s Age Defender series in particular. The rule of thumb here is: eyecream first, serum second. So in order of application, the Kiehl’s Eye Repair helps to limit dark circles and resurfaces crow’s feet, while the Power Serum provides a first line of defense against aging skin, as it visibly firms skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
Step 4: Moisturiser
The most important thing to remember here is that you should choose your moisturiser by your skin type – think oily, combination or dry. Also it’s good to bear in mind that, much like shaving, there is little point spending serious cash on a moisturiser if you haven’t taken care of business beforehand. There are so many different kinds of moisturisers out there, you might be better off trying a few things before you settle down with your product of choice. Our picks are the Dermologica Active Moist (via Active Skin) or Aesop Mandarin Facial Hydrating Cream (via Adore Beauty) for the face, and the always-reliable Burt's Bees Skin Nourishment Day Lotion for the body (via Active Skin).
